Lairig Ghru
On Sunday 25th June almost 100 runners embarked on the 28 mile Lairig Ghru ultra-distance hill race between the police stations at Braemar and Aviemore. The long distance route rose to an altitude of over 2,700 feet through the Cairngorms and required total self sufficiency. Rigorous cut-off points along the route reduced the total number of runners to 85, ending the race for those who could match the tough times set.
Hydrasun's own Business Development Manager, Rob Irvine (see pictures attached) completed the course in 4 hours and 39 minutes, a time outside his personal target, but impressive none the less considering the bad fall he suffered 16 miles into the race.
Hydrasun supported the event by providing a coach to transport the runners from the finish line back to their cars at the start of the race. The coach was a great success and not only contributed towards a record number of entrants but also raised funds for the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue team, who provided emergency support during the race. Every runner who booked a seat on the coach made a £10 donation to the charity, which raised a total of £220 for the charity on the day.
Well done to all who took part in the event.
